I’ve been quiet for awhile but that doesn’t mean working on the kitchen has stopped. In the last month the walls have all gone back up and the walls have been painted.
As much as I loved my red wall in the dining room I wanted to make the room feel like one big space so it had to go. It only took 3 coats of primer!
Now we’ve moved on to cabinets. Mom and I spent 2 days putting together all of the cabinets. I have to say Ikea makes it easy, at least once you learn to interpret their diagrams. After the first few cabients I think we had it down to 15-30 minutes per cabinet.
Hanging the uper cabinets was easy. Rick and dad did most of the work but the Ikea suspension rail system makes leveling hanging them so much easier than putting up a ledger board and trying to level the cabinet while attaching it to the wall.
Dad and Rick abandoned us the next week but instead of putting off working on the base cabinets mom and decided that we could do it ourselves…and we did!! It took us several hours but we managed to get one wall of cabinets completely installed.
There is still a lot to do but my kitchen is actually starting to look like a kitchen again. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
